Tunnel Vision

Perturbing Self-Portraits
~ Tunnel Vision ~

There's a joke that the optimist sees a light at the end of the tunnel whilst the pessimist sees an oncoming train.

This here poetry plaque from the inventive Bibliothèque François Mitterand railway station in Paris says: "L'obscure est un chemin, la lumière est un lieu", which is "Dark is a way, and light is a place" from Poem On His Birthday by Dylan Thomas.

I have no idea what it's about but there are birds in it, which is nice, as I've been writing about birds today, and he talks about the sea, and sailing out to die at the end, which is quite a cool way to go.

I Exist Therefore I Think

Perturbing Self-Portraits
~ I Exist Therefore I Think ~

How on earth can I continue to be original and not just churn out the same old same old like that guy who published (publishes still?) a picture of himself at 9:09 every day, when he more often than not finds himself in the lift on his way to the office - exciting stuff?!

Because Paris. I can walk the streets, any day, season or occasion and, without fail, find something that inspires me and gets me thinking.

Here's some sticker on a bench opposite a public toilet in the middle of the Avenue René Coty in the 14th arrondissement which caught my eye. Reassuring really.

Vive les Zatypiques !

Perturbing Self-Portraits
~ Vive les Zatypiques ! ~

"Vive les Zatypiques" means Long Live the Atypical Ones, or " Here's to the Unusual Ones, or the Not-Like-the-Others or simply, possibly, the Weirdos. I'd say that sums me up quite nicely, except that... that was before.

Not that I don't feel atypical any more, it's just that... I'm far more aware these days of the sad case of so many 'so-original' people trying so hard to be 'not-like-the-others' that they end up all looking decidedly alike in their 'uniqueness'.

But not me, hah, not any more. I'M going to be unique in NOT shouting about my uniqueness, how about that for, err, originality? Kind of.
